Salvage yards specialize in salvaging parts from cars, SUVs, trucks and vans that no longer run because of mechanical or physical damage.
take, for example, a car that has been hit on the side. There may be many salvageble parts that can be re-used such as window glass, engine, driveshaft, differential,
transmission, radiator, exhaust manifolds, bumpers, fenders, ECU, seats, and more. These parts are all considered used parts and will be considerably less expensive than
new parts.
A salvage yard typically purchases their vehicles from auctions that handle the sales of used cars from dealer inventories and cars deemed "totalled" by insurance companies. The cars are considered
a total loss because repairing the car would cost more than the car is actually worth. A salvage yard will recognize the profitability left in the vehicle and disassemble the
car and sell the salvaged parts.
Why buy used parts from a salvage yard? Whether you drive an import or domestic car, SUV, truck or van, there are two simple reasons why: 1) you save money over
the cost of new, replacement parts; and 2) you are guaranteed to get a part that will fit your car because it was built for your make and model.
When it comes time to make repairs to your car, SUV, truck or van, you should always consider buying used parts from salvage yards because, quite simply, it makes
economical and environmental sense.
